Planning a Shabby Chic Wedding

This style of wedding is laid back, and full of special details. It would be perfect for an afternoon wedding and reception or beautiful in a garden or backyard.

Choose Your Colours

Choose your colours. Faded pink, turquoise, and white are a good choice. Use these colours on your invitations to set the tone for the wedding. Find a style that uses lace, gingham, or a small floral print.

Create A Beautiful Entrance

Greet the guests by decorating the entrance. Cut out the bride and groom’s initials out of foam core, and cover with silk rose petals, the bride’s in light pink and the groom’s in white. Hang the initials with turquoise ribbon from the ceremony site’s doors. For a guest book, get creative. Give each guest a pretty card and request that they write a note to the bride and groom. Later place the cards in a photo album.

Decorate the Wedding Ceremony Site

Show your shabby chic style at the wedding ceremony site. Punch holes in the top of the program and tie ribbons to it; place them on the chairs to dress up the seating. Paint old 23 x 30 inch frames white and sand down the edges so the wood shows through. Lean them against every other row, and place a tall pastel-coloured bouquet just behind the frame. Use vintage jars as vases.

Decorate the Reception, Too

At the reception, you can set off your theme by displaying seating cards in a unique way. Print cards with guests’ names and table numbers in a typewriter font. Clothes pin them to a ribbon draped on a table or hung from above. If you can use an old wooden table, do so. Decorate the table with a pastel fabric bunting across the front. Place a pastel rag rug in front of the table.

Chabby Chic Dinner Tables

For the guest tables, use white tablecloths with a round lace doily in the middle. In the centre of the table, place different sizes of clear glass bottles. Fill each bottle with just a few small flowers, such as daisies. Use vintage fabric napkins in various colours if possible. If not, choose a pastel napkin and tie it with a length of cotton floral fabric. Have fun with the favours. Buy white boxes, and glue a bow and silk flower to the top.

Choose a light blue cake with two inch lace around each layer. Go antiquing for a vintage cake topper. Sew ruffles to the bottom of a pink and white floral tablecloth for the cake table.

It's In The Romantic and Vintage Details

Keep in mind, shabby chic is all about romantic and vintage details, so add them wherever you can. This will make for a memorable and beautiful wedding.
