Use this guide to measure your table edge, choose the correct table skirting clip and calculate how many clips you need for a trestle table, bridal table, buffet, exhibition display, stage or platform.
Which Table Skirting Clip Do I Need?
The correct clip is determined by the total thickness of the table edge. Measure from the top surface of the table to the lowest point the clip must pass over underneath.
This is particularly important when the tabletop sits on a metal support frame. In that situation, measure the timber top and the frame together wherever the clip will be attached.
Step 1: Measure the Table Edge
Choose the Position Where the Clip Will Sit
Look underneath the table and check whether the clip will pass over only the tabletop or over both the tabletop and a supporting metal frame.
Measure from Top to Bottom
Measure vertically from the top surface to the underside of the complete edge. Include any timber lip, plastic moulding or metal support that the clip must fit over.
Check More Than One Position
Some tables are not the same thickness around every edge. Check the front and both sides, particularly if you plan to skirt three sides of the table.
Select the Closest Suitable Clip
Choose a clip that can fit over the measured edge securely. Do not force a clip that is too small onto the table.
Measure the full table-edge thickness where the clip will actually be positioned.
Common Table Types
Blow-Mould Folding Tables
Plastic blow-mould tables, including many folding tables sold by Bunnings, generally have a thick rounded edge. They often require one of the larger clips in the range.
Do not assume every Bunnings table is identical. Measure the complete moulded edge before ordering.
Older Plywood Hire Tables
Older-style event-hire tables often have a relatively thin plywood tabletop without a large supporting frame immediately beneath the edge.
These may suit one of the smaller or medium metal clips, depending on the actual plywood and edge thickness.
Newer Commercial Event Tables
Many newer imported folding tables have a timber top positioned directly above a metal support frame. The clip may need to pass over both layers.
Measure the complete combined thickness rather than measuring the timber top alone.
Stages and Platforms
Stage edges can vary considerably. Measure the full platform edge, including any metal support or trim located where the clip will sit.
Check that the clip can be attached without interfering with cables, braces or moving stage components.

Place a clip on each side of every corner. After the corner clips are positioned, space the remaining clips approximately every 30cm to 40cm along the front and sides.
Typical Three-Sided Trestle Table Layout
Use one clip on both sides of each front corner, then add clips every 30cm–40cm along the front and two ends.

How to Attach Table Skirting
Fit the Corner Clips First
Place one clip on each side of every corner that the skirting will wrap around. This creates a secure change of direction and helps prevent sagging.
Add Clips Along Each Straight Edge
Space the remaining clips approximately every 30cm–40cm along the front and sides.
Attach the Hook-and-Loop Heading
Press the fastening sewn along the top of the skirting firmly onto the fastening surface of each clip.
Adjust the Pleats
Move the skirting gently along the clips until the pleats, gathers or panels are distributed evenly.
Check the Corners and Ends
Confirm that the skirting does not pull away at corners and that the finishing ends are supported by clips.
